Cavitation in diaphragm pumps occurs when localized pressure drops below a critical value, causing liquid vaporization and bubble formation. These bubbles collapse under high pressure, leading to mechanical erosion, chemical corrosion, and component damage. Key causes include long or narrow suction pipes, high liquid temperatures, impurities, and insufficient inlet pressure. Symptoms of cavitation include increased noise, vibration, reduced flow, and unstable pressure. To mitigate cavitation, strategies such as optimizing flow paths, reducing suction loss, adjusting pump speed, and using cavitation-resistant materials are recommended.
