Three-Step Troubleshooting for Intermittent Diaphragm Pump Failures
Oct,23,2026
The diaphragm pump suddenly stops while in use, and reinserting the air tube after unplugging it makes it work normally again—this happens repeatedly and seriously affects production efficiency. When encountering this "start-stop" fault, don't rush to replace the pump. Follow the three steps below to troubleshoot in order, and most cases can be solved quickly.
Before operation, remember to close the intake valve and release pressure first. For corrosive media being transported, flush the pump chamber first to avoid liquid splashing and injuring people during inspection and disassembly.
Insufficient lubrication in the air valve chamber
The slider inside the air valve chamber is prone to sticking due to long-term lack of oil. When the pump runs to the reversing position, it stops directly, and then temporarily recovers after the air source impacts it.
Release pressure and remove the air valve cover, add pneumatic lubricating oil to the slider and piston, and manually push the slider back and forth to form an oil film. In daily use, install the matching pneumatic FRL unit (filter-regulator-lubricator) from GODO, so that the lubricator continuously supplies oil for lubrication and prevents the slider from seizing.
Excessive back pressure in the outlet pipeline
Conditions such as clogged filter cloth of the filter press, a throttled discharge valve, or accumulated slag in the pipeline will all cause internal pressure buildup. When the pump reaches the pressure value, it shuts down. Clean impurities in the pipeline, clean the clogged filter cloth, and appropriately increase the intake pressure to ensure that the supply air pressure is higher than the outlet back pressure, so that the pump can maintain continuous reciprocating operation.
Unstable air source supply
Insufficient air volume from the air compressor, too small a diameter of the intake hose, or multiple devices sharing one air source will cause large fluctuations in air pressure, and the pump will start and stop accordingly. In this case, replace with a thicker intake pipe to ensure sufficient air source, regularly drain accumulated water from the air tank, and ensure stable air source pressure.
