A Guide to Efficient and Safe Operation of Pneumatic Diaphragm Pumps

Nov,28,2025

As a fluid transfer equipment, pneumatic diaphragm pumps are widely used in chemical, food, environmental protection, and other industries. They are easy to operate and have low maintenance costs, but attention to installation and usage details is essential to enhance efficiency and service life. The following are key consideration

During installation, ensure the equipment is grounded to prevent electrostatic risks in flammable and explosive environments. The pump should be fixed on a stable base, and the associated pipelines must be securely installed to avoid suspended vibrations. The feed valve operation requires caution: before starting, the valve must be fully opened, and during shutdown, the air supply should be turned off before closing the valve. Failure to do so may cause diaphragm rupture due to pressure.

Regarding pipe diameter selection, the inlet and outlet pipes should not be smaller than the pump port size. For high-viscosity materials, a larger pipe diameter is recommended. Pipeline sealing must be strictly inspected, as leakage at the inlet can weaken self-priming capability. The suction pipe should be shortened with fewer bends, and a slanted design can prevent vacuum formation by avoiding contact with the bottom. For granular materials, filtration is necessary to meet the pump's passage standards, as oversized particles can easily clog the pump chamber.
